こうしゃく【講釈】

1 〔講義〕 a lecture [＝こうぎ⁸]; 〔もったいぶった細かい説明〕 pompous [wordy] instruction.

～する 〔講義する〕 give a lecture 《on…》; explain [elucidate] 《a book》; 〔長々と説明する〕 explain in a fussy manner; go on and on about….

●彼は蕎麦(_そば)の正しい食べ方を長々と講釈した. He gave (us) a long-winded lecture on the correct way to eat soba.

●例によって彼は出されたワインについてもっともらしい講釈を垂れた. As usual he expatiated convincingly on the wine that was brought out.

2 〔講談〕 storytelling (on stage).

講釈師 a professional storyteller; the narrator of a story 《of battle》.
